The Captive Breeding Program, intiated by Point Defiance Zoo was successful. Here is a member of the very first litter.
Red Wolf (Left) and Coyote (Right). Can you tell the difference? One of the major risks of Red Wolf populations, up to this day, remains the possibility of interbreeding with Coyoytes.

A Red Wolf rushes towards freedom in the United States. Each released Canis Rufus has a micro chip or wears a collar. This allows researchers to locate and track Red Wolf population numbers in the wild.

It is rare to find a litter of small Red Wolf pups, like shown in the image above. However if they are found, the first actions are disinfection and vaccination.
Many organizations, including the Red Wolf Coalition, work towards full restoration of the wild Red Wolf population.
